What you will learn

Mobile marketing is not only choosing a phone-sized advertisement. It includes the entire experience after someone taps: page clarity, navigation, forms, contact routes and response. This lesson reviews that journey with realistic tasks and fixes problems that can be hidden by a desktop-only inspection.

Choose a real mobile task

Define what someone is trying to do after seeing a message. It might be comparing a service, checking product dimensions or requesting a discussion. Start from the actual campaign link and include any redirects. Record the expected information and action so the review is grounded in a customer task rather than personal preference about appearance.

Check readability and visual hierarchy

Review headings, text size, spacing and image crops at a narrow width. Important information should not depend on tiny text inside a banner. Confirm that the main point is understandable and that long words or menus do not spill outside the page. Inspect a useful range of widths rather than assuming one screenshot represents every phone.

Test navigation and controls

Open menus and dropdowns, use links and check whether overlays cover the content unexpectedly. Controls should remain understandable and usable in context. Review focus and error behaviour where possible. A design that fits while closed can still fail when a long menu opens, so test the expanded states and the route back to the page.

Complete the contact or purchase route

Use an approved test process to check fields, validation, success messages and handover. Verify telephone and messaging destinations. Consider interrupted use and how someone returns. Do not count an opened contact route as a completed conversation. Record technical failures separately from questions about the offer so the correct team can address them.

Prioritise fixes by customer impact

Repair broken actions and hidden information before cosmetic refinements. Describe the problem, affected task and verification method. Check that a fix does not introduce a new issue at another width. Keep before-and-after evidence and review real customer questions where available. More mobile traffic will not repair an unusable enquiry journey.

Worked example: mobile journey testing

A service website’s menu appears neat when closed but covers the article when expanded. The team changes the layout so opening it moves content down, then tests the long dropdown and contact buttons at narrow width. The report describes the task repaired and checks the form separately rather than claiming an unmeasured conversion uplift.

Practice: turn the lesson into a working draft

Choose a campaign link and complete one customer task at a narrow and a wider viewport. Test menu-open, form-error and success states. Record the most serious problem and a clear verification step for its repair.

Review your work

  • Real starting link
  • Readable information
  • Expanded states tested
  • Contact route completed
  • Fix checked at several widths

Frequently asked questions

Is responsive design enough by itself?

It is a foundation, but the actual journey still needs testing. Forms, menus, messaging links and handover can fail even when a page appears to fit.

Should I review only the home page?

No. Review the destination people actually reach and the next steps they need. Campaigns often lead directly to service, product or article pages.

What should I keep in my learning portfolio?

Save your working brief, completed exercise and review notes. Explain the decisions you made, identify assumptions and distinguish a proposed test from results you actually measured.
